Sawadi in Skoura - Excursions

Often our customers who have chosen to stay only a single night at the Sawadi do wish they had stayed at least another night. The Sawadi is an ideal base to explore the area around Skoura, and there are a variety of excursions available.

Camel trekking through the Skoura palmeraie

The camels will take you and a guide through the palm trees and olive groves to discover the kasbahs hidden amongst them. You'll see the traditional crops and irrigation systems that feed the area. The locals are friendly and may invite you in for a traditional mint tea.

Price: 850 dirhams for two people, to be booked prior to your arrival at the Sawadi.

A day on foot or on donkeys to discover the Dades river

Sidi Flah is a charming little village on the edge of the Dades river, 15 miles from the Sawadi. Depart by car in the morning to reach the starting point with the guide on Oued Dades Bridge at Ouled Merzoug. The hike down to the Dades river uses small roads passable only by foot or by donkey, and leads you to the oasis of Sidi Flah, past a few small villages. Depending on the season it is possible to swim in the Dades river. Eat a picnic lunch at the oasis of Sidi Flah before returning to the Sawadi by car.

Price: 850 dirhams for two people, to be booked prior to your arrival at the Sawadi.

The Sawadai also offers a range of excursions to see the surrounding area, at extra cost, payable directly to the Sawadi.

The Skoura Palmeraie

The Palmeraie is a forest of palm trees that covers over 50 square km around Skoura. Within the Palmeraie, sheltered by the palms are villages, tracks, fields, fruit trees (apple, fig, olive). There are scattered Kasbahs both in use and ruined.

This excursion will take you to the Amerdhidil and Ait Sidi El Mathi kasbah's. You can choose to walk, travel by mule or horse, or drive. You will have lunch at an oasis or in a village.

Village of Sidi Flah

This is a small village on the edge of the Oued Dades, about 15km from the Sawadi. You be driver to the starting point and then walk or ride a mule along the Dades river, passing some small villages. This is a one day excursion with picnic lunch.

Valley of Roses and the Dades Canyon

The Valley of the Roses leads into the Dades Canyon along the Mgoun river. The rose flowers from this valley are used for rose water and beauty products. The valley is a contrast of lush green with the brown/black rock.

This excursion will last about ten hours, with lunch in a restaurant in the valley.
