We continue to the Kasbah (fortress) where a stroll through it leads us to the 16th century monument site of the Saadian Tombs. Notice the wonderful Hispano-Mauresque architecture and the burial ground of the Royal Family. Later at the aristocratic Bahia Palace we see the magical Moorish gardens surrounding the beautiful palace residential rooms. A visit to the colourful souks and a stop at Jemaa El Fna Square, the ancient meeting point of the tradesmen in Northwest Africa, ends the tour.

Gardens & Exterior City Sightseeing

0900 - 1230 or 1500 - 1830 daily

City Walls Our orientation drive outside the city walls crosses the Agdal Gardens and the Royal Palace. In the Menara Gardens, we see the small Saadian pavilion mirrored in still water with the Atlas Mountains and olive groves in the background. Sultans used this pavilion for romantic interludes. We drive to the beautiful botanical Majorelle Gardens, privately owned by Yves St Laurent.

Ourika Valley - Atlas Mountains

0930 - 1530 daily

Ourika Valley This excursion begins with a picturesque drive from Marrakech to the Ourika valley, allowing for stops to see the pottery at Dar Caid Ourika. On Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, we stop at the weekly Berber souk, which is a fascinating place to see the rural life and trade. The trip continues along the rivers meandering through the foothills of the mountains, where we see typical hamlets of baked clay and stones, and you will stop to visit the inside of a Berber home. You may ask your driver to stop for lunch at the charming Kasbah Restaurant. (lunch and guide are not included).

Asni / Ouirgane - Atlas Mountains

0930 - 1530 daily

Village This excursion takes us into the Atlas Mountains to see a vast array of vegetation, coloured rock cliffs, mountain streams, Berber villages and local mountain people. The local souks at Tahanaout and Asni (Tuesdays and Saturdays) are a wonderful opportunity to photograph traditional rural markets which are bustling with activity. (lunch and guide are not included).

Cascades Of Ouzoud

0800 - 1800 daily

Cascades Of Ouzoud This full day excursion takes you to one of the most beautiful natural sites in the Middle Atlas, the 330 foot (100 meter) waterfall of Ouzoud. The area of the cascades is surrounded by lush vegetation as well as olive and carob trees, which are filled with monkeys at sunset. There are walks (but paths may be slippery) offering spectacular views of the cascades from both the bottom, where the water hurtles thunderously down, and the top, where visitors may look into the impressively deep chasm. A particularly picturesque area for a picnic lunch, it is possible to swim in the cascade pools. (lunch and guide are not included)

Telouet - high Atlas Mountains

0900 - 1700 daily

Tichka Pass This full day excursion takes us deep into the High Atlas Mountains, up to the top of the Tichka Pass (6660 feet) and over to Telouet where the fascinating Glaoui brothers (Madani and Thami) had their main residence and stronghold. This vast complex of crumbling buildings was finally abandoned in 1956. This strange and remote Kasbah gives visitors a sense of the drama and history between 1893 and 1956, when the Pacha Glaoui and his family were at the height of their power, and suffered their great fall. The fascinating events of this period and the personal style of Thami El Glaoui are brilliantly unfolded in Gavin Maxwell's “Lords of the Atlas”. The brooding romanticism of this book almost compels readers to visit Telouet. (lunch and guide are not included)

Ouarzazate - Sahara Desert

0800 - 1800 daily

Ouarzazate This full day excursion starts by driving through the fertile countryside of the Haouz Plain. We drive up and across the High Atlas Mountains over the Tiz-n-Tichka Pass (6660 feet) with spectacular scenic views of mountains and semi-desert terrain topped by kasbahs and adobe homes. On the other side of the Pass, a striking contrast of red clay villages and greenery leads us to the beautiful city of Ouarzazate, situated on the edge of the Sahara Desert. Here we have time for lunch and a visit to the 17th century Taourirt, the former residence of the Pacha Glaoui. This trip is highly recommended for its scenery. (lunch and guide are not included)

Essaouira - Atlantic Coast

0800 - 1800 daily

Essaouira A full day excursion to the Atlantic coast to visit the charming town of Essaouira shows visitors one of the oldest and most important fishing ports in Morocco. Old Mogador was founded by the Romans and inhabited by the Portuguese during the 17th century. This typical Portuguese harbour, with fine examples of both Moorish and Portuguese art, was the setting for many scenes in the film “Othello”. Sightseeing includes the harbour, ramparts, medina, the 17th century cannons brought from Spain, and the local artists quarter. (lunch and guide are not included).

Tiroudine - Foothills of the High Atlas

Here you will take a 20 minute mule ride up a track, through the shallow river-bed to the first of 7 natural outlets of the Tiroudine spring water, said to be very good for the liver and digestive system. You then continue on foot further up the hill, where you will visit the hammam. There are several simple but good cafes where you can enjoy refreshing mint tea, or even a tajine lunch.
