An ideal setting for a couple of days relaxation combined with exploring the spectacular palm groves, the kasbahs and forgotten villages in the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains. Well off the beaten track - a good car/4 wheel drive is recommended.
Exploring on foot from the Jardins de Skoura is great fun! We were joined by Dissi - a very gentle, friendly and attentive black dog owned by the hotel, and were advised - "just follow Dissi!" (Aptly Dissi is Arabic for 'from here'). This we did, and had a wonderful walk through the Palm groves, following the stream and exploring old ruined Kasbahs along the way. Dissi patiently waited for us when we lagged behind, and came to find us and lead us back on the right track when we took a wrong turn. The latter he did twice, but eventually gave up on us as a lost cause after our third deviation from his chosen route. Having carelessly lost our guide, we decided to go back the same way we had come so as not to get hopelessly lost. When we turned the corner to the hotel, the first thing we saw was Dissi, sat outside the hotel patiently waiting for us. He came bounding up, tail wagging madly as if we were long lost friends! A human guide can be arranged if you would like to walk for longer, and picnic lunch can be provided with prior notice.
Please note that the Jardins de Skoura does not accept credit cards - a client notes: "they have a fantastic olive oil and also sell Argan products."

It is certainly a lovely spot--gorgeous public spaces, lovely details in the nice rooms and bathrooms. Our daughters, unfortunately (and this occurred at every place we stayed), were given the least comfortable and noisiest room--directly next to the reception and dining areas on New Year's Eve. The food was quite good. They had difficulty sleeping. Rating 3.5-4 out of 5. B.G. in January 2010
Was great. I think our bathroom was my favourite room of the whole holiday! There is no getting away from the fact that it is quite a drive off the main road, but for us that was part of the adventure. One of the best things we did all holiday was the 1/2 day walking tour of the oasis that Les Jardins arranged for us - being shown around and handed fresh pomegranate, almonds etc to munch as we walked!
