Landrover Safari - Itinerary A 3
A3: 5 days Valley of 1,000 kasbahs and dunes of Merzouga
Available mid October - May
Day 1
07.00 depart from your hotel in Marrakech by Land Rover crossing the High Atlas (Tichka Pass) to Ouarzazate, then continue along the Draa Valley to Agdz and Tazzarine where you will have a picnic lunch. After Tzzarine, join the pistes and overnight camp near Oum Jrane.
Day 2
Follow the piste through Rich Sidi Ali and Jebel Zireg. Picnic lunch followed by a short walk. Overnight camp in the dunes near Remlia.
Day 3
Continuing on to the River Ziz Valley and Taouz and on to the dunes of Merzouga (the highest dunes in Morocco, some reaching 750 ft high). Overnight camp on the Eastern slopes of the dunes.
Day 4
Walk in the dunes, climbing one of the highest dunes (not difficult - optional) then continue in the Land Rover along the piste towards Erfoud where you will join the main road to Tineghir and Boumalne (this is known as the Valley of a 1,000 Kasbahs
). Join the piste and head for Bou Trarar for overnight camp or spend the night in a small auberge either in the Dades Valley or in the the palmgroves of Skoura.
Day 5
Follow the piste to Kelaa M'Gouna and continue on the main road to Ouarzazate and Ait Benhaddou. Here you will join the piste again for the ascent to Telouet Kasbah (once the stronghold of the Glaoui Tribe - read Lords of the Atlas by Gavin Maxwell). Rejoin the main road at the top of the Tichka Pass and return to Marrakech late afternoon/early evening.
Driving times are indicative and do not take into account stops for lunch, photographs or resting.
