Dar Meziana in Chefchaouen
Run by Mrs Meriem Abdoul, wife of Mr Hassan of Casa Hassan (also in Chefchaouen), this truly beautiful riad opened for business in 2007, having taken Meriem and Hassan 3 years to renovate.
Meriem, originally a school teacher from Tetouan, came to Chefchaouen for a brief visit about 15 years ago. Here she met Hassan, and has stayed ever since! Meriem has carefully decorated the house herself, giving each bedroom an individual character full of warmth and beauty. The use of Tadlakt in the bathrooms, hammered copper sinks, beautifully painted wooden ceilings and hand crafted doors, modern glass bricks and crooked windows, Moroccan lamps and carpets all come together to give this riad a totally unique feel. It also has a beautiful roof terrace with the most amazing views over the city, mountains and surrounding countryside.
Everywhere you look at Dar Meziana there is something different to see - once you have stepped through the front door you will not want to leave, the staff and house itself making you feel perfectly at home!
Meriem and Hassan came up with the idea of painting the alleyway steps to Dar Meziana the same blue colour as the houses, and adorning the steps with potted plants and flowers. Now, many others in Chefchaouen have followed suit, and most of the town now has beautifully painted blue or white steps and plants galore, making Chefchaouen one of the most beautiful towns in the world.
There are 7 en-suite rooms with shower at the Meziana, all with heating (including under floor heating) and air conditioning.
