Dar Azawad Kasbah Hotel in M'Hamid

The Azawad is a Kasbah style hotel 5km from M'Hamid, with three desert campsites at various distances into the Sahara dunes.
The kasbah
There are 10 en-suite rooms and 5 larger Junior suites. The suites also have a separate toilet, lounge and private terrace with garden. Both rooms and suites have air-conditioning and the bathrooms have a shower or bath tub. The decor is simple and Moroccan in flavour.
The restaurant offers traditional Moroccan cooking, and it is also possible to join in a cooking course.
The camps
The Bivouac De Ras El Njel ('Reve Sahara') is situated 7km from the main hotel, about 20 minutes in a 4x4, or reachable by camel. It is a good location to experience a short stay in the dunes, along with a camel trek.
The Short-Nap Cloth El Nje camp is located at the south of the Wadi Draa, and offers relative luxury (for a camp), including a hammam and toilets. The traditional Nomade tents are decorated in local style with cloths and carpets.
Also 7km from the Azawad is the Bivouac of the Blue Men ('Hommes Bleus'), this is also a luxury camp, offering hammam and toilets.
For a deeper experience of the dunes, travel 60km to the Bivouac Of Ch' Gaga Dar Azawad, located in the Ch Gaga dunes. Here you will discover the ocean of dunes, and the diversity of the desert landscape.
The Paradise of Sands camp offers the highest luxury, consisting of 6 tents (each 24m square), spread over 24ha, along with a restaurant tent and a sitting tent. It's 47km from the Kasbah (about 1 and a half hours), 5km from the dunes of It h'gaga. Each tent has a separate bathroom and chemical toilet, and includes a hammam (With a limit of 20l of water for the shower, for enviromental reasons). The local decoration and king sized bed adds to the comfort. The camp is lit both by electrical lighting (from a generator) and by candles for atmosphere. The restaurant tent includes a good selection of wines. While luxurious, the camp is fully designed around the local enviroment, including the ability to remove it without trace.

Feedback and reviews
great food and service. We had the best dinner of our trip here. The 3 desert camps arranged through the hotel that we visited were are different and worth the stay. As we happened to be the only visitors at each, we had an extra well supported stay and got along very well with the camp staffs. I would recommend at least a basic knowledge of French (or Arabic or Berber) when traveling this far out of the urban centers, we would have had a much less interactive experience without it. We loved chilling our here on the day after our overnight stay in the desert. It is a very relaxing place with cheery staff. Our overnight trip in the desert was excellent and well run and felt very decadent (we were the only occupants of the camp on the night we stayed!). The quality of food they produced there was amazing, and the bedroom accommodation was perfect. We particularly love the photos of us looking like intrepid explorers at the Ch'gaga dunes....
